Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada

Who We Are

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada is a family of 100+ churches participating with Jesus in spreading the Gospel. We partner with two bible colleges, and six camps.

EMCC believes God has called us to become a movement of followers of Jesus deeply invested in the world around us, so that individuals, churches, communities, and nations can flourish as God intended.

With help from our global mission arm, EMCC World Partners, churches and leaders can learn with, connect, and mobilize others to adaptively participate in Jesus’ mission everywhere.

EMCC provides ministerial credentials to over 375 pastors and ministry leaders and assists them through alongside support, events, network groups, and resources.

We have a national team of full and part-time personnel to serve our pastors, congregations and missionaries.

Our Values

We follow Jesus

We value His ways, His words and His life as our example.
Have this same attitude in yourselves that was also in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5)
Therefore, God elevated Him to a place of highest honour and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Philippians 2:9-11)

We depend on the Holy Spirit

We value listening to the voice of the Spirit. We seek to walk in the power of the Spirit.
There is fellowship together in the Spirit. (Philippians 2:1 paraphrase)

We genuinely care

We value relationships. We strive to live as the family of God. We seek to compassionately care.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition…rather, in humility, value others above yourselves. (Philippians 2:3)

We humbly serve

Like Jesus, we value humilityand servant-leadership.
Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He emptied Himself and took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on the cross. (Philippians. 2:6-8)

We collaborate together

We value being together, learning together, working together and being on mission together.
We value the multiplication of disciples, leaders and churches.
Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, loving one another and working together with one mind and purpose. (Philippians. 2:2)

Strategic Plan

Multiplication Minded

Multiplication should be at the forefront of the church's thoughts, design and activity.
Disciples, making disciples.
Leaders, developing leaders.
Churches, and disciple making communities multiplying other churches and communities.

Future Ready

Proactively learning, preparing, adjusting and reinventing and positioning ourselves for the future and context in which we serve.

Actively Engaged

To mobilize our pastors and people in Mission and in collaboration together toward our common cause and vision.

Christ-like Character

Post pandemic leadership must focus more on character development than on competency improvement.
This will mean an increased emphasis on relationships not just education.

Our Heritage
and Mission Matters

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada is a 'denomination', or an extended family of churches, participating with Jesus in His Mission. A denomination is simply “known by a given name”, and we, along with many other North American branches of the Christian Community, grew from pioneer settlements of European migration.

17th, 18th, & 19th Centuries

Our story flows from the predecessors of both the Evangelical Church in Canada (ECC) and the Missionary Church of Canada (MCC), who merged in 1993 to form the EMCC. The ECC story has emphasized the life of spiritual renewal, of holy living (a Pietist commitment to live distinctively, set apart for God’s good purpose in and through us), and of having hearts “warmed” to the presence of God’s Spirit in our lives, which was characteristic of John Wesley’s early Methodist teaching.

Our MCC background brought deep Anabaptist values of community, mission, and discipleship so characteristic among Swiss Mennonite streams. When Wesleyan evangelism brought to life the Person of the Holy Spirit in the lives of our predecessors, a movement of Jesus-led counter-culture emerged.

20th & 21st Centuries

Our converged story carries with it the call to live a life marked by following Jesus on mission together. We value our heritage not by trying to recreate the past, but by following the trajectory of God’s calling which led our predecessors to bless and serve all people in the name of Jesus, as well as preach and live out the difference Jesus makes in our lives across Canada and around the world. In all we do, we seek to uphold unity, by serving Jesus together with like-minded partners wherever we go.

We encourage you to discover any of our 150+ congregations. Explore more about our historically significant Camps and Colleges, which continue to help people on their journey with Jesus and to develop Christian leaders for the future. Engage with our cross-cultural and global efforts to bless others and invite them to follow Jesus, and join us in our investment in the next generation of Jesus-followers and leaders.

This is our story. It's the journey we’re still on as we stay centred on living like Jesus, for Jesus, and in the power of the Spirit of Jesus.

“Our movement has been characterized by a willingness to embrace renewed commitment to following Jesus together on mission to the world.”
